That’s right…we have just added a new fixed gear bike review. For this installment, we have reviewed the 2010 Raleigh Rush Hour…this is one gooooood looking bike. For starters, this bike features a rugged, simple and utilitarian single-speed drivetrain, a Reynolds 520 steel frame, and as you can clearly see, an awesome blue and grey color scheme…just look at the matching rims, grips, frame accents, saddle rails, seat-post clamp and headset; I am a sucker for a cleanly designed bike, and this one definitely fits the bill. The Reynolds 520 frame is excellent in that it provides the legendary smooth ride of steel with track-inspired geometry and horizontal rear dropouts that features built-in tensioners. This bike also comes stock with Sugino Messenger cranks with a 46-tooth chainring driving a 16-tooth freewheel…the rear hub is obviously a flip-flop which can be turned over and run with the 16-tooth fixed cog.
The 2010 Raleigh Rush Hour also comes stock with front and rear Tektro dual-pivot caliper brakes with inline levers that make for quick and responsive action that is very effective at slowing you down. This fixed gear is also outfitted with Deep dish Weinmann DP18 rims with high-flange, sealed hubs and puncture-resistant Vittoria Zaffiro tires. The pedals come with steel clips and leather straps for accepting street shoes. As with any bicycle, after the initial break-in period, you will probably notice the bicycle performing less responsively than when you first got it, but that is simply because the cables have stretched and it’s becoming worn in. This, however, is a very responsive, fast and durable bike that should last you a long time…and at a price point of about $500, this is a fairly inexpensive bike and suits all types of riders…from newbies to seasoned veterans.
