Fixed Gear Bike Misconceptions.

John August 24, 2009 2

There is now a new addition to the fixed gear guides section of the website.  In addition to the reasons you should ride a fixed gear article, we have added a section to battle the many negative misconceptions a lot of people have about fixed gear bikes.  The first negative stigma we decided to put to rest was the argument that fixed gear bikes are dangerous on the road.  This is one thing that I am very sick of battling…especially when I hear about people getting ticketed and arrested for riding a fixed gear because othey are “unsafe.”  Check out the article and let me know what you think.  Leave a comment if you have anything to add to it, or shoot me an email at jay.Santos86@yahoo.com

A fixed gear just sounds dangerous, because it has no breaks. How can you stop when riding at a high speed?? It seems you can’t stop fast enough if something unexpected comes your way.

yeah it definitely is a lot more dangerous without the luxury of brakes…but there are ways to stop without brakes…now, i would always recommend at least having a brake as a backup. i’ve had my chain snap on my going downhill before…that is a prime situation in which you wish you had a brake. always go for the brake!
