Are Fixed Gear Bikes Fading?

John October 23, 2012 3

Is it almost over?  Is the fixed gear trend slowing down…or is it just that time of year when everyone starts to put up the old 2 wheels because its getting a little too chilly?  Did that fixed gear movie make all this shit lame all of a sudden?  What are your thoughts as a person visiting a website about fixies?  Are you still riding your fixed gear or are you over itWalmart is selling fixies so you interpret that however you would like.  This asshole has one.

I’m trying to encourage a little conversation here…chime in with your 2 pennies about fixed gears…are you pissed off?  are you stoked?  Where do you want this sport/lifestyle to go?  to hell?

I am actually new to riding a fixed gear (within the past couple months). I have always been into cycling of some sort, mountain biking primarily, but when I started road commuting I found the simpler the better and more fun. I had a vintage 12 speed road bike that I eventually fixed and went brakeless. I absolutely love the simplicity and the wide range of things I can do with it… commute, leisure ride, flatland tricks, etc. Easy to work on and understand, and a blast to ride.
I hope the trend fades away from any more large commercialization (like that movie that was recently released), and remains popular with the “in it for the riding” crowd, however not pop-culture popular.
