Check out this weird fold up fixed gear bikethat I found here…this is the Boston from Montague…apparently, Wired Magazine even did a review of this newly released folding fixed gear…I don’t know how much I really like this idea/design…actually, I don’t like it much at all…the whole appeal of the fixed gear, to me, is the simplicity of it all, and this thing just looks super complicated to me…not to mention probably pretty heavy. I can see the small appeal of it being easier to store, especially in city settings…but I’d rather just keep my bike in the living room and walk it down the stairs in the morning. It probably looks pretty funny walking out with that thing in the morning and unfolding it on the sidewalk…oh well, to each their own…here’s what Wired had to say:
“The Boston isn’t quite as clean-lined as a brakeless, Aerospoked fashion-machine, but the aluminum framed folder should be both light and sturdy. The most curious aspect is the folding mechanism itself, which looks a little like a mountain bike suspension system. The whole front-end is one solid piece, and the rear triangle pivots around the seat-tube and locks on to both of the double top-tubes. Handy for hauling up to elevator-free apartments, and even handier for bagging and taking on vacation.”
