How to Convert to Fixed Gear.

Submitted by John on November 24, 2008 – 4:25 pmNo Comment

Maybe you have an old bike that you want converted into a fixed gear...HOW DO YOU DO IT? Well here are 6 basic steps you must take in order to accomplish that.

1. Remove any un-needed components. This is because you will not need any of these things anymore and they will just weigh you down. Fixies are simple and require very little.

2. Select your chainring and determine your chainline.

3. Replace the freewheel with a track sprocket. This is what makes it fixed. one sprocket=fixed gear.

4. Respace the rear wheel's axle; this will put the sprocket in correct alignment with the chainring.

5. Redistribute the rear wheel in order to center the rim in the frame.

6. Finally, put on a new chain...a new sprocket will easily wear out with an old chain.
