What if you’re moving or going somewhere far away to visit by plane and you want to still be able to get around town on your bike…what do you do? Well, you simply take your bike with you, although it can cost a bit extra; the charges can vary, but most airlines charge an additional $50 fee for transporting a bike. If you have someone at your destination to receive it, it might be a better idea to ship the bike, as it will probably be handled easier. Either way, you have to pack your bike and this is how you do it:
-First, you need to get a bike box from a bike store…if you go to your local bike store, they should have a few extras just laying around that you can probably just have.
-Next, take off your front wheel, pedals and handlebars so that everything can fit inside of the box.
-Now, put everything inside of the box…pretty much how it was when you first got it. Keep the pedals separate in your luggage to prevent them from bumping around inside the box dinging up your bike.
-Fill the box with crumbled up newspaper to prevent damage to the bike during the transport.
-Tape up the box, and check the box at the airport.
or you can invest in a nice bag and pack like this…much safer, I’d say.
