Pure Fix – The Juliet fixed gear bike

The brand name, “Pure Fix,” might not be a household name when it comes to your mainstream fixed gear bicycles, but judging by the specs, looks and price of this fixed gear, it looks like they are making some quality bicycles. The bike featured today is one of their sickest models, the Juliet. The Juliet fixed gear bike frame is available in 50cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58cm or 60cm…a size for most people. One of the sickest parts of this bike, in my opinion, is the black colorway…the matte black frame and matte black wheels…super sick. The Matte ‘Black Magic’ frame and deep dish wheels really gives this bike a stealthy look.

The Juliet features a flip flop hub which will give riders the option of riding fixed gear or single speed freewheel. These models also ship with removable front brakes…so for you daring and experienced riders that love going brakeless, you can enjoy this bike too. 2011 Gavin Fisso Bike Review

This is the 2011 Fisso Fixed Gear bike by Gavin…thanks to the dudes at Road Bike Outlet, we were able to do a little review on this bike…so let’s go ahead and get started. First off, the packaging of the bike was really awesome…very well protected and packed…Doggy really liked this box and ripping up as much cardboard and plastic wrap as possible.

don’t mind that box back there…my place is clean.

after a little bit of greasing, turning, adjusting and pumping this is what all that stuff turned into, the 2011 Gavin Fisso…a really stylish and sophisticated looking bike. The classic brown bullhorn handlebars and saddle is really what sets the bike apart and make it stand out to me…it gives it an expensive look, but the price is definitely in the right area at $349 with free shipping. The Gavin Fisso also comes with a rear as well as front wheel brake…I hooked up the front brake and plan on removing the rear brake…i like it simple…one brake will do. They also give you the option to switch back to a single speed freewheel as they threw in a sunlite freewheel in the toolbox…so you always have that option.

Anyways, after snapping some pictures I took it for a spin around the hood…it is very hot in the Carolinas at the moment so this was a short lived ride (the pool has been calling my name all week). I could tell this was a good bike though…as soon I took off it was a nice and smooth ride (make sure to take the time to properly assemble your bike, AND adjust it…very important if you want to enjoy how the bike works). The bike gets goin pretty fast and stays solid…believe me, this bike is going to get some definite action and wear this weekend…I will have more to report on next week.

Vans OTW Fall/Winter…releasing the Pritchard

Who doesn’t love a great pair of Vans? Vans has always made the best skate shoe around…the waffle grip, the vulcanized soles…Pretty much every other shoe company out there has ripped off the Chukka, the slip on, the authentic and the era…just goes to show you what trendsetters those dudes are…well anyway, I saw these new vans that are part of the fall/winter 2011 collection…they are releasing a new model with a more grown up look…it’s called the Pritchard.

The Pritchard is a lace-up style of sneaker that features an EVA midsole and a cupsole outsole…this shoe also features tonal stitching and cotton laces. These shoes come in an variety of colors and materials including suede, oiled suede and waxed canvas. These sneakers are set to hit shelves starting June 1st at selected Vans OTW account carrying shops…pretty much any legit skateshop should have them…Check out the new Vans TNT Five’s…I’m wearing these now and they ride and skate great!

Mikes Bikes Review: Mission Workshop Rolltop Messenger Bag

Got an email from Mike, the guy who makes the Mike’s Bikes videos…he has put up a new video…this time it isn’t a how to or build tip…it is a review of the new Rolltop messenger bag from Mission Workshop…sick company out of SF…remember their spd sneakers? anyways, check the review below…its a really good one, this is a really versatile, tough and convenient bag…i really want one.

The Inner city Bike…kind of weird looking.

Check out this bike…it’s called an Inner City Bike and from what I can tell from their website, this is the hippest thing I have ever seen in my entire life…just look at the gallery and the dude riding the bike, pretty decked out in some fancy clothes…anyways, I don’t know why I brought that up…just some funny atire and facial hair for a dude riding a bike in Michigan. But on to the bike…sorta weird (as you can tell)…theres no chain on this bitch so it is pretty much a unicycle with a front wheel and handlebars. Would that make it be considered a fixed gear? Crunch Gear referred to this bike as “minimalist’s fixed-gear.” Pretty much they removed all the mechanical elements of a bike until all that is left is a “unicycle with a front wheel and handlebars.” The bike still has a front brake which looks absolutely necessary to me…other than that it is pretty simple and broken down into the simplest form of a bike, much like a fixie…I just don’t think I will be trading my bike in for this anytime soon…it looks like something only some rich, modern dude would own.

L.E. Green Bags, Limited Edition Reusable Bags

Check out these pretty sick limited edition reusable bags from L.E. Green Bags…these bags are pretty cool, not your standard reusable bags you get from the grocery store…these bags actually look pretty tight; one of their inaugural limited edition releases is a fixed gear themed bag. I am not sure how frequent they will release new designs, but the two I have seen so far are pretty tight…check out the photo below for a look at both of these bags…currently you can get these bad boys from the L.E. Green Bags website and also amazon. These bags currently retail for $3.75…not bad at all. I have personally checked out some samples of these bags and took them to the store the other day to pick up a few things…held up real well, very strong material and actually got a few complements on the bags…its about time someone made a cool reusable bag…check them out!

EighthInch Splined Chainring Adapter

Check out this new product from Eightinch I saw over on the Eighthinch blog…this is their Splined Chainring adapter. This splined chainring adapter is great for strengthening your standard chainring. This adapter will add the strength of a 48 splined crank to a standard 130BCD chainring. 48 splined cranks are super strong and can really hold up to the back and forth torquing that a fixed gear bike will put on them. According to EighthInch, the 48 spline system was originally designed for BMX, so the chainring sizes can be pretty limited, so riders looking to run tooth counts in the 40′s may have trouble finding something….however, these adapters mount right on the spindle acting as a spider to mount any 130BCD chainring eliminating that problem…check out some of these Eighthinch Splined Chainring adapters for sale through the following eBay auctions.

FBM Sword SQ Fixed Gear Frame

Check out this sick fixed gear bike frame that is hand made right here on the East Coast in none other than New York City…this is the FBM Sword SQ…you have probably already seen this frame on other blogs like prolly and locked cog…but i just wanted to say something about it too…because these things are so tight. These new FBM Swords have an OX Platinum top and down tube…The Sword SQ is built in a traditional track geometry…Check out below for complete specifications and information. The Sword SQ is kinda limited in the sizes though; these frames are only available in 48cm, 52cm and 56cm…so if you can ride that then you are in luck because you could potentially own one of the sickest bikes on the planet. This frame is available in two sick colors, the Irock Blue which looks real nice and also clear, pictured below. One of my favorite aspects of this bike is rather superficial though…the head badge on the front proudly displays the unicorn and “HandCrafted New York USA.” You gotta love that, New York Pride and East Coast Pride. You can expect this frame to retail for around $530 bones…worth it. Chrome Kursk Cycling Shoes

Check out these Cycling Shoes from Chrome…We mentioned the Cadence x DVS Milan CTC a few days ago, but these Chrome Kursk sneakers might be a little easier to get your hands on considering they are already out. But anyways, this is a true cycling shoe…this is what Chrome has to say about their shoes:

“We wanted tough shoes we could wear every day – not just on our bikes. Here they are. Like our bags, we make them with the toughest and most industrial materials we could find and build them to last”.

That statement is true as hell, by the way…the sole is stiffened and feels like an SPD, but is much more comfortable than an SPD…these shoes flex enough to where you can comfortably walk and ride in them…this I like…It is a much more comfortable and durable alternative to Eras…those things wear out quickly. The Denier Cordura material the Kursk is lined with really gives it the extra comfort feeling…much like memory foam. The Denier Cordura is also weatherproof…can’t say that about your Vans. The Chrome Kursk is obviously a low profile sneaker, which makes it more conducive to fitting into a toe cage. A few other features of this shoe include: Re-enforced nylon/glass fiber shank to support the midsole, skid resistant contact rubber on the sole, polyurethane contoured crash pad insole, and lace garage for keeping laces from getting caught up in the chain. These are some truly sick cycling shoes…I like that they don’t necessarily look like cycling shoes. They look sorta like Chuck Taylors and that is pretty cool. They will take some breaking in, but once you ride and walk in them a day or two, you will love it.
