1.  simplicity.  Fixed gear bikes are known for their simplicity.  This style of bike leaves off many of the non-essential parts that a normal bicycle might include, for instance, gears.  Fixed gear bikes are single speed, which means only one gear.  Your chain isn’t going to grind and make weird ass noises as you change gears.  A lot of riders also choose to ride without brakes…some see it as unnecessary, others see it as a dumb risk…whatever your opinion is on breaks, fixed gears get rid of a lot of added weight most bikes have.

2.  it’s a trend.  The popularity of fixed gear bikes should also be contributed to the simple fact that they are in fashion…they are popular right now, which makes everyone want them.  Thats just how trends work i suppose, but they’re still badass and will continue to be badass even after the flame has died out.  Other reasons for the surge of popularity among fixed gear bikes is the price.  Depending on how you talk to and where you look, fixed gear bikes can be expensive or cheap…it depends on a number of options including brand names and style, but the whole idea of fixed gear riding is a relatively cheap hobby..think about it, it is the simplest form of cycling.  Check out some of these excellent deals on fixed gear bikes on eBay below;

1.  Customization.  People can do whatever they want with fixed gear bikes…there are so few parts to these bikes that customization is relatively simple!  Look at the streets of New York City…they are jumpin with crazy colors and styles of fixed gears.  Most people tend to customize the wheels and rims, the frames and handlebars.

2.  The Subculture.  As mainstream as people want to say fixed gear bikes have gone, it is still a subculture full of people that others find interesting.  People always want to emulate what looks attractive to them, and to many people the idea of bike messengers, low maintenance and simplicity is an enticing idea.
