You Need Fixed Gear Bike Tools!

What are you going to do if you need to make an adjustment or quick fix on your bike? You gotta do something, YOU NEED FIXED GEAR TOOLS...Safety is way too important to simply look over the simple adjustments and regular maintenance you should be keeping on your bike. If one thing isn't working properly, that can mean a whole mound of problems for you while riding or somewhere down the line. It is paramount for you to have a set of good tools, or to know someone with a good set of tools. If you are looking for what kind of tools you need, then you have come to the right place. To keep your bike in good working order, you must have a set of open/box wrenches, a good set of allen keys/hex wrenches, and also a C-wrench in order to tighten and adjust your lock ring...also a chain breaker can't hurt either.

But what should you carry while you are on the road...you can't very well carry around an entire set of box wrenches with you at all times. While riding, I would recommend carrying a crescent wrench, chain breaker, extra chain, a patching kit (I can't tell you how many times that has come in handy), an extra tube, and also a little tire pump. All of these things can easily fit into a backpack and not be too big of a pain in the ass while riding...but I would definitely recommend these Fixed Gear Tools to carry with you at all time. Lights for your Bikes

Now that it is getting to be summer time all around the States, people are most likely going to be taking advantage of the warm weather and cool nights...this means more night time riding, which means more fun. But, if you are big into riding at night, than you probably already know the importance of riding with at least a light, especially if you travel and popular streets. Lights on your bike are no joke, they can seriously be the difference between getting hit by a car and not. I have a number of friends who have been hit by cars at night without the use of a light...and you can be sure that they started using bike lights after having a run in with a car. Cateye is a pretty popular and trusted brand when it comes to bicycle lighting. Their models of lights come with both a front and rear light, which is what you want to have. Some lights are just a front light to go on your handlebars...but what good will that do for the idiot speeding up behind you...you gotta have something behind you so that you are visible to cars from all sides. Why Roll Up Your Pant Leg?

Man, I can't tell you how many times people have asked about why the pant legs are rolled up when I am riding my bike...my little brother especially...so just in case some people out there are curious and are searching for the answer as to why many riders roll up their pant legs when riding, here is the answer. It is simply so that your pants to not get caught up in the chain...that can be disasterous...It isn't some odd fashion trend (for most people). It is just a simple safety precausion that many people take when wearing long pants. If your pants get caught up in the chain, it'll rip your pants or possibly remove them...because of the no freewheel aspectof riding a fixed gear...more important than the embarassing factor, it can also cause you to crash hard. So if you are riding, roll up the pants or wear some shorts...and for those of you just looking for the answer as to why it is done, there ya go.

Bern Carbon Fiber Watts Helmet

Remember about a week ago, we mentioned the importance of wearing a helmet and not splattering your brains on the pavement when you are out riding...either out on the city streets, or on a track or wherever...Well, I just wanted to bring that point back up and perhaps offer a solid solution to this problem. Check out these helmets offered through Bern which are made of carbon fiber...some of he toughest shit you can get to protect ya dome. Bern makes a bunch of different multi-purpose helmets for all kinds of activities, like biking, skiing and skating...and the best thing about these helmets is that they look way cooler, or should i say way less lame than 90% of helmets out there. These aren't your typical old school, plastic Bell helmets. Another good thing about these helmets is the design, in terms of their safety. The backs of these helmets come down significantly farther on the back of the head in order to protect more than the typical helmet would. Many of the helmets offered through Bern also come equipped with a visor in the front so that definitely ups the safety and handiness of this helmet...now you can wear a helmet instead of a simple hat that wont help you at all if you find yourself heading face first for the pavement when a car cuts you off in the middle of a ride. Finally, the last selling point for me on this helmet is the weight...it is not heavy or at all what you would expect. This is a great helmet, even for those who despise helmets.
